Post-Sex Penis Pee Problems

There’s of information out there strongly encouraging women to pee following sex to avoid UTIs but what about the men? What’s going on with the penis and post sex peeing? Turns out, quite a few things could be going on. Below are 3 different post-sexual penis problems that may occur:
.
.
1. The spray of urine, following sex, is inconsistent and going all which ways at once. What causes this is likely the urethra, during sex, carries semen very close to the bladder and following sex flushes our the left over semen thereby interrupting the stream of urine, enter the spritzy- inconsistent-all-over-the-place pee. To avoid such an experience, urologists recommend trying to pee slowly which should create a more consistent flow. .
.
2. You still have an erection. It’s difficult, yet not impossible, to pee with an erection. The reason for this is because to get an erection the chambers inside (called the corpora cavernosa and corpora spongiosum) fill with blood and compress the urethra, therefore creating less space for the flow of urine. One way to solve this, beyond waiting it out, is to apply light pressure on your bladder to create a bit for force to push the stream of urine through the compressed urethra. .
.
3. It burns when you pee. This could be due to several things. As mentioned in the previous post about peeing after sex, it’s not only women who can get UTIs from sexual play, this is something that can affect everyone. Along the same vein, burning can also be due to urethritis, which is an inflammation of the urethra (rather than an infection like the UTI). Other causes can be STIs such as chlamydia or gonorrhea. And lastly dehydration can also be the culprit of a burning stream. Solutions for these? Drinking lots of water and antibiotics if needed. .

If you’re having any of these issues and it seems more severe than normal or uncomfortable sensations persist, it is always a good idea to follow up with your family physician. Good sexual health is part of good physical and overall health!
