Stealthing is Assault

Stealthing is the act of removing a condom, mid way through, unbeknownst to the person you are having intercourse with. Essentially it is non-consensual removal of a condom - can be a form of reproductive coercion (mentioned in a previous post). .
.
While some might think « well what’s the big deal, consent was there for sex? », but consent for sex with a condom is significantly different than consent for sex without one.
.
.
The physical consequences of stealthing can be unwanted pregnancies and STI transmission. STI transmission is especially concerning here because at times without testing people aren’t aware that they are infected and if you are under the impression you’re having protected sex, you might wait longer to get tested - which could lead to greater health risk for the individual and the public as well.
What’s worse, usually, are the emotional consequences of this behavior. Emotional consequences might be psychological distress, feelings of violation, shame and being deceived and disrespected. .
.
Bottom line - it is a big deal and it’s not okay. So let’s remember to communicate about contraception and respect each other and the choices we make.
