Digisexuality

Digisexuality also known as technosexual - most people might not know the reference when I use this term but it’s essentially referring to the relationship between sexuality and technology. .
.
Research done by @dr_markie, whom I had the pleasure of listening to at this years SSTAR conference, (depicted in second and third pictures) highlights two waves of digisexuality. .
.
Wave 1 is something most of have experienced which is also known as online dating, using apps, messenger systems, social media etc to date and interact with our lovers. Essentially using technology to mediate our relationships with other humans.
.
.
Wave 2 takes it a little further and doesn’t require the interaction of another human being. So this might include virtual reality, robots etc. Examples of this can be seen as the movie “Her” or most recently the man in Japan who married a hologram. .
.
This may seem like something out of a sci-fi movie however these types of digisexuality are more becoming more and more common as we, as a society, delve deeper into our varied relationships with technology. .
.
Historically speaking there was a time when online dating was thought to be easy access to serial killers and nefarious intentions but now it’s one of the most common ways to date - could it be possible that type of relationship with wave 2 is just around the corner as well. Could this be the future of sexual health? A new sexual orientation? A compliment to ones that already exist? What is your relationship with technology?
