Male Sex Workers

The common assumption is that the majority of sex workers are women - there are however more male sex workers than you might think. I must admit, I too, once assumed this and when doing the SAR (sexual attitudes reassessment) as part of my sex therapy training, I was fairly surprised that the portion on sex work was hosted by two male sex workers. .
.
Studies done on the prevalence of male sex work (through online ads) found the majority (57%) were targeting a male population, followed by some ads also targeting women and couples. These studies, mostly through interviews, also found that the average profile of sex workers who are men are younger (under the age of 25), identify as gay or bisexual and their primary motivation was for the money (which is unsurprising as many people chose jobs and careers for the pay cheque!). They also found that average the going rate was roughly 160-200$ US dollars an hour leading up to a couple thousand for overnights or weekends (which was confirmed by the sex workers in my training).

One of the main differences found in the research between men and women sex workers is the majority of men reported doing it as a means to supplement another income and on more of a part time basis. Just goes to show you that sex work, like any other, is a genderless job that runs both full and part-time.
